From all accounts our universe was not an accident and is acknowledged … as in the sun, moon and stars are part of the Divine and so this basic truth is to be trusted. More realistically, it appears that human events or concerns cannot stop the passage of time or the movement of the tides. The ebb and flow does not wait for anyone and there is no time to ponder. Another power is in control.
When this proverb was created, the word tide meant “time,” so it may have been the alliteration of the word that first appeared to people. Now the word tide in this proverb is usually thought of in terms of the ocean which can be a symbol of power and strength and to be seen as a place of mystery, endlessness, calmness, hope and even truth.
“Time and tide wait for no one” is the proverb that nudges us to utilize our given time in the most optimum manner. Time once lost, can never be recaptured. So if you don’t reproductively utilize time, you will miss out on opportunities. Understanding, knowledge and wisdom of time is the most important and valuable thing we can receive … especially in this day and age.
It was about 1935 that Geoffrey Chaucer’s Prologue to the Clerk’s Tale attempted to lay the ground rules. He paved the way for a better appreciation to several biblical references and the fact that nothing survives its power. The processes of nature continue, no matter how much we might like them to stop and change the process. And time becomes a precious commodity on this planet. Time is deeper and stranger than anything else in our lives; it takes everything with it, nothing is bigger than time, and nothing survives its power!
Mindfulness is the key to “who is wasting your time?” Human error takes time. Arguments with computers and voice identification dramas, take time and with this package comes frustration, annoyance and a change of pace to mess with your day. Dodge it like you would a bullet. The prophetic meaning of time may not be fully realized as in “timelessness” in the sense of being outside time altogether.
God speed and safe travels.
