Barbara Matson
Sweetheart:
first… you are my poet,
not my herbalist
I spring from bleached earth
with sideways leap of branch,
I call you to enjoy my leafy mass and delicacy of fragrance
with painted images and poems that spring from your singing heart.
Tenacious roots hold sandy pebbles to my breast
as landscape answers your query
answers, not for the medicine they hold,
but an embraced image.
With astounded hand and eye, you translate your surprise
into essence
you cannot resist
the thrill
your questioning painter/poet soul has overheard.
Barbara Matson writes fiction and poetry. She is a published author of Dancing with Dandelions and My Date with Van Gogh. She also paints and her work is displayed at the Borrego Art Institute.
