Ellen Gerneaux
I begin by
pushing off the pool’s blue tile wall
foot flexed toe pads pressed down
I relax onto my back
gaze at the sky cloudless clear blue
the mesquite tree canopy
stark brown branches
delicate fern-like leaves
I float effortlessly
delicate fern-like leaves
stark brown branches
the mesquite tree canopy
I gaze at the sky cloudless clear
relax on my back
until foot flexed toe pads pressed down
I push off the pool’s blue tile wall
and begin again
